After reviewing many YouTube videos, from many different Ultra Marathoners, the amount of mileage required to win a 100/135 miler is around 150 miles a week.
Most of the Athletes, Men or Woman tell the same story.
The first time Badwater experience, most Elite athletes ran in peak period 200 miles a week
.
Athletes returning for a second consecutive Badwater experience dropped the peak weekly mileage to 150-190 miles. Commenting, they could do less mileage because of the base from the previous year.
Therefore, I figured, I should be able to run 100 miles a week in preparation for a 100 milers 10 weeks in the future.
I decided to buy a Garmin watch to help me record and keep my workouts on pace times.
I purchased the Garmin Forerunner 310XT without heart rate monitor.
After setting up the goal of 100 miles a week of running for 6 weeks my results were poor.
100 miles of running equate to 160 kilometers, I set my Garmin to Kilometers.
Over the next 4 weeks i could only manage to average 70K, 90K short of my goal every week.
Working full-time and booking off whenever possible I could not find the time to run enough volume to meet my 160k weekly goal.
I needed to rest my goals, after reviewing more YouTube videos, I determined the Elites are running 25hours a week therefore I decided to reset my distance goals to time goals.
If the elites can run 25 hours a week I should be able to run 12.5 hours a week.
12.5 hours a week is still difficult to achieve, i have been close the last 2 weeks, 10.5 and 9.75 hours.
