Uxbridge 1/2 Marathon - Barefoot

Uxbridge 1/2 Marathon

My first official Barefoot race was a success.

I finished 13th overall and placed second in the 50-59 age group in a time of 1:38hrs.

Minor foot damage and blisters on heal caused by defending on pavement with wet feet.

Fastest Kilometer was 3:48 minutes

When on the pavement I could maintain my placing however once we hit the trails I could run like a school boy.

P2A - Paris to Ancaster Bike Race 60K

The Paris to Ancestor bike race is over paved roads, dirt roads and single track trails.

It is a serious mud bowl.
The event is well organized very fun.

2000 Bikers showed up to try their luck against the course.
P2A Race Start

It was an exciting start to the race with the riders broken into 3 waves.

I was in the third wave therefore hitting the mud section after 1000 riders chewed up the course nicely was ugly.

At one point my bike would not move forward because of the mud.

My wheels would not spin...  I could not pick up the biked because to was too heavily packed with mud.

I dragged the bike out of the mud and finished the 60K in 3 hours.
My Training Buddy Rico After Race

Even at 50 years old playing in the mud is a blast.

Treadmill - A Skin Bubbler Device

I have been running outdoors exclusively since January 2 2011 in my Vibram Bikila 5 fingers.

My feet have suffered through 4 months of punishment over Snow, Ice, Rock, Pavement and Dirt Roads in temperatures as low as -20C without a shingle blister.

While travelling on business, I decided to do a quick 30 minute barefoot run on a treadmill.
10 minutes into the run I noticed my feet getting hot.

As my feet started heating up, I thought about the Badwater course, if I cant take the heat from a treadmill for 30 minutes how would I ever make it to the finish line at Badwater, so I continued...

Below are the results...

Notice the blackness on the left foot, this is the rubber from the treadmill surface melted into my skin, after 2 showers.

These picture were taken 2 days after the "Skin Bubbler Run".

When you start to run Barefoot it is recommended to start out 5 minutes on a treadmill.

This is nonsense, I started outside in the forest and ran 1hrs 45 minutes with minimal suffering.

I will never run inside again.

Vibram Bikila 4 Month Review

The Vibram 5 Fingers Bikila Shoe Review

The shoes have taken a beating, I run in the harshest conditions possible to test the shoes and find out how much punishment I can handle.

I ran on ice, snow, dirt and pavement over various distances 10K to 30K.
Coldest temperature  -20C , my feet froze like stones in less than 20 minutes.
