First Barefoot Race - 30K Road Race

I ran the 30K on pavement without issue.
It was actually easier than running on the snow and ice trails I have been training on.

While waiting in the coral for the race to start, a runner behind me noticed I was running barefoot.

He loudly commented "Running barefoot is for the trails only"..."you shouldn't be running in this race without proper shoes"...my pace for the 30k was 5:20 minutes per Kilometre.

Ski Season Ends with 1 Ultra in the Bank

2010-2011 Ski Season Ends
The ski season was excellent this year. Lots of snow in the forest for cross country skiing and the local downhill resorts also had great conditions.

Cross Country Highlights
My local forest offered exception back country conditions.
I managed to get out for 3 ski workouts over 3.5 hours and 2 ski workouts over 4:30 hrs.

The longest distance I covered in a single workout was 25K and the fastest workout was 21K in 2:50 hrs with my good friend, the mighty Sinc.

Downhill Highlight
For my 50th Birthday I skiied with my good friend, Wood Chopper, we skiied a continuous 117K, including the lift up, after each run, in 7 straight hours.
The distance was recorded on my Garmin.

I am considering this my Winter ultra event, it's no Arrowhead but it was the best I could do.

First Barefoot Injury

Running for about 1 hour in -10C temps causes the feet to freeze to the point where feeling in the feet is greatly diminished.

I started daydreaming and hit my left foot off a rock.
The pain was so sharp I have to cut the run short.

I hit my left foot second smallest toe hard.

I was concerned it was broken however I think it was just bruised.
I limped around for the last 2 days and the foot is getting better.

The cause of the injury was not barefoot running just a momentary lack of concentration. You have to pay attention more when running barefoot.

Stay focused.
